A few weeks ago, we wrote an article about the beginning of the World Cup and now we are only a few days away from the ending. How can we summarize so far?
Defending champion Spain was sent home early, the bite-attack from Luis Suárez was reason for much controversy, and many games were left with little or no goals forcing overtimes and penalty shootouts.
Now the moment has come to analyze the two teams who face each other in the Maracaña this Sunday.
Germany is now in a bid for its fourth World Cup title. The team reached the semi-finals in four consecutive tournaments, but so far it didn’t work out to their favor. Admittedly Germany reached the semis without playing with great finesse and wit, but nobody saw a 7:1 victory against Brazil quite coming like this. 30 minutes into the game everything seemed decided already at a score of 5:0 for Germany.
Miro Klose set a new all-time scoring record with his 16th goal in a World Cup game. But will Germany be able to keep up this exceptional performance in the final or is the huge triumph over the host team getting to their head?
Germany’s energizing factor: Manuel Neuer, without a doubt the best goalie in this tournament.
La Albiceleste is looking to get their third title. The country’s hopes lie on the shoulders of Barça’s Lionel Messi.
The second semifinal was the exact opposite of the first one. The game was decided in a penalty shootout after a scoreless 120 minutes. Though the Netherlands started this tournament with a potent win over defending champion Spain, they couldn’t outlast the La Albiceleste and succumbed 2:4 in penalty kicks.
The Argentines were flawless on their four shots with Leo Messi, Ezequiel Garay, Sergio Aguero and Maxi Rodriquez and goalie Sergio Romero did his part by stopping Vlaar and Sneijder.
Argentina’s energizing factor is without a doubt Lionel Messi, but only if he is backed by colleagues such as Angel di Maria and Gonzalo Higuaín.
Which team will have the necessary energy boost and endurance to triumph in the end? Who is your favorite to win the desired World Cup trophy?
