Final Fantasy VI (1994)
Final Fantasy VI is a role-playing video game developed and released in 1994 by Square Enix. To date there have been sold 3.48 million copies worldwide. The game´s story is centered around a group of rebels that attempt to overthrow an empire in a fantasy world. Until today it is remembered as a landmark title for the role-playing genre and one of the greatest videos of all times. The series, which got its name from the fact that it was supposed to be Square Enix´s last game ever, has recently launched its 15th edition.
Super Mario 64 (1996)
Super Mario 64 is a 3D platform game released for the Nintendo 64 in 1996. Originally developed for the SNES, it was later moved to Nintendo 64 due to system limitations and the ending of the 16-bit era. Even if it was not the pioneer in its genre, it was used as a sort of benchmark for many games. Until today, 11 million copies have been sold, turning it into the best-selling game of all time.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998)
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is an action-adventure video game which was released in 1998 by Nintendo. It is the fifth game of the series and the first one featuring 3D graphics. The mixture of role-playing and puzzle elements set in an open world environment inspired by Chanbara Movies (a type of Japanese sword-fighting movies) and its protagonist “Link”, made it one of the most popular games in history.
Halo: Combat Evolved (2001)
Halo: Combat Evolved, or simply Halo is a first-person shooter video game published by Microsoft Game Studios in 2001. Set in the twenty-sixth century, the game is viewed from the eye of Master Chief, a cybernetically enhanced super soldier, who is accompanied by Cortana, an artificial intelligence. Gamers have to combat various aliens in order to reveal the secrets of Halo, a ring-shaped artificial world. Halo has been praised as one of the best and most important games of all time.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007)
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is yet another first-person shooter video game published in 2007 by Activision. The story takes place in the year 2011, where an unnamed country of the Middle East starts a civil war in Russia. The player views the conflicts from the perspective of U.S. Force Reconnaissance Marine and a British SAS commando, featuring various game modes. It has sold over 13 million copies worldwide and was honored as “Best Xbox 360 Game” by IGN.
Grand Theft Auto IV (2008)
The release of Grand Theft Auto IV in 2008 turned the video game industry upside down, as it broke sales records by earning US $ 500 million in the first week. It´s an open world action-adventure video game, which is played from a third- person perspective and allows the player to interact with the game world they wish. It follows the story of Niko Bellic, a veteran of an unnamed war, as he comes to the US in search of somebody important, but quickly becomes caught up in the world of gangs, crime and corruption.
